Multiple Tornadoes Touch Down in Southern Illinois

Powerful Storms Bring Destruction to Marion County

Severe Weather Alerts Issued for Carbondale and Surrounding Areas

A series of tornadoes have struck southern Illinois, causing significant damage and widespread power outages. The National Weather Service (NWS) has confirmed six tornadoes touched down on Friday, including one with wind speeds of 150 mph.

One of the hardest-hit communities was Marion County, where a tornado warning was issued around 7:30 pm. The storm caused severe damage to homes and businesses in the county.

The tornado watch area extended approximately 60 statute miles east and west of a line from 45 miles southwest of Harrisburg to 45 miles northeast of Harrisburg.

Survey crews have also found evidence of tornadoes hitting in Saline County, just southwest of Eldorado.

The NWS is urging residents in the affected areas to stay alert and follow the latest weather updates. Multiple weather advisories, warnings, and severe weather alerts have been issued for Carbondale and surrounding areas.
